saved the best for last

We're still here, and have enjoyed every last minute of our time in Morocco.  Last year, soon after we arrived, we road tripped to the city of Volubilis and Fez.  We arrived in Fez late in the afternoon without any planning; big mistake number one. After parking in a random sketchy lot we were bombarded with hustlers trying to sell us a personal tour, hotels, restaurants, it was overwhelming and after a few hours we ran from the city of Fez.

Many of our friends have either loved Marrakesh or have loved Fez.  Fez had (notice the past tense) been the only city I had not liked in the entire country, until this past weekend.  No kidding, it's now a favorite!  We were very lucky to have won the Morocco blog award earlier this year and as a winner we won a fantastic tour of any city. (Thank you again for voting for us and thank you to Alecia at travel-exploration.)

I really wanted to love Fez and this was is our last weekend in Morocco.  This time we did some proper planning. First, we booked a tour in Fez and second, stayed at a marvelous and luxurious Riad.

Unlike any other place we've stayed, Riad Laaroussa offered the largest breakfast spread, complimentary Moroccan slippers, personalized greetings by the staff, friendship by the owners, beautiful rooms and excellent food. It was remarkable. I would happily recommend this Riad to anyone, I promise you'll have an excellent vacation in Fez.

The grand entrance, the door bell, is of birds singing.

 Happy being so freaking happy!

Riad Laaroussa was originally built 300 years ago, and has all the original tiles and wood work.  It was breathtaking and HUGE.
